WEBSTER — Maine-Endwell’s Madison Morris made her second trip to states a special one, earning a state medal with a 10th place finish in diving at the NYSPHSAA Federation Swimming & Diving Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center.
A year ago Morris took 16th at states, and that experience helped her coming into this year.
“The experience is definitely helping me out,” she said. “I feel like I’m a lot more calm. I’m a lot more ready to focus on what I have to do instead of just trying to get the experience.”
For Morris just being at states was special, especially competing in such a fun atmosphere.
“I am so excited, this is going to be such a good experience,” she said. “It’s an electric crowd. Everyone is excited. Everyone is ready to go.”
For Morris just competing with the best in the state makes the whole thing special.
“Everybody here is amazing,” she said. “Everybody worked so hard to get here. It’s so inspirational to see everyone doing their best and really pushing themselves to get better.”
It was a big day for Section 4 with three divers earning state medals. Corning’s Brooke Terwilliger was second at 488.70 and Kaelyn Katchuk of Owego was sixth at 466.15.
“It’s so nice, everybody loves each other and we are a nice team dynamic,” Morris said. “We are all friends, so it’s been working well. We are all hanging out.”
